CHAPTER FIFTEEN
Maxxy
Thereâs a definite pep in my step walking into work.
Things with Hoodoo are progressing rapidly, and though I wasnât sure we were ever going to head down this path, I must admit, I sure do like where weâre going.
There is one thing that does sit in the back of my mind, and it is constant.
The way âNâ plays in my thoughts.
The way I want to always dash off to write to him.
The way I desperately want to tell him everything thatâs going on.
But I just donât know if telling him that Iâm seeing someone romantically is something I should do. Thereâs always been a little bit of flirtation between him and me. Maybe the promise that more would develop between us if given the chance.
I certainly felt that way.
I think I was hanging onto that hope.
Itâs why I feel such a deep, rich connection to him.
But maybe âNâ is just a damn fantasy.
Maybe writing to someone you have never met is not a logical way to invest your time and emotions. Especially when I have a flesh and blood all-alpha male right before me, willing to give me his time of day.
Hoodoo is definitely a surprise I wasnât expecting, but one I am willing to grab onto with both hands. I now have to figure out what that means for âN,â and whether I can have my cake and eat it too, as they say, or whether having Hoodoo means I need to lay âNâ to rest.
With all these thoughts running through my mind, Iâm in my own world as I walk toward the office, but a faint voice calling my name pulls me back into the here and now. I snap my head around to see Tomás and smile as he runs up to me. âMaxxy! Iâm so glad youâre hereâ¦â he gushes, puffing like heâs out of breath.
I reach out, placing my hand on his shoulder. âTake a breath, and tell me whatâs going on.â
He slows his breathing, then exhales. âThereâs some woman here claiming she needs to see you. She wonât leave until sheâs spoken to you, and sheâs flirting with all the guys making them not want to work.â
Furrowing my brows, I glance over my shoulder. âWhat woman?â
Tomás scrunches up his face like heâs thinking. Then he nods as he remembers. âI think she said her name was⦠Selene?â
My stomach twists, my eyes widen as I spin, trying to figure out where the fuck she is. âSheâs here? Right now?â I blurt out.
âIn the warehouse with the guys. I donât know who let her back there, but sheâs making one hell of a scene.â
Scrubbing at my face in frustration, I let out a small groan. âFuck!â I mentally prepare myself for whatever is about to be thrown my way and steady my shoulders. âOkay, letâs go.â
Tomás leads the way, walking me over to the warehouse, the sounds of laughter coming from inside as I pull back the plastic curtain drapes and step inside the giant area.
